As a hairstylist I tend to meet a lot of interesting people. One of who happens to be my client. John is one of the co-founders of a company based in Lake Forest, Ca called Cryptozoic Entertainment. With almost a decade of friendship, due to him being my client, he has shared the experience of CominCon and now WonderCon with me and my daughter. Snuck us in under employee passes (which is basically how everyone gets into a hair show..duh). You can check out his interview in my blog.
WonderCon is an annual comic book, science fiction, and film convention held in the San Fran Bay Area (1987–2011), then - under the name WonderCon Anaheim - in Anaheim, Ca (2012–2015, 2017–), and WonderCon Los Angeles in 2016. The convention returned to the Anaheim Convention Center in 2017 after a one-year stint in Los Angeles. The show left the Bay Area after the 2011 convention. They then moved to SoCal in 2012, and was rebranded WonderCon Anaheim. In 2016, a new convention started in the Bay Area, called the Silicon Valley Comic Con.
Features and events
While the main attraction of WonderCon has always been various retailers selling back issues of comic books and action figures, the exhibitor list has grown to include retailers of specialty DVDs, novelty exclusives, and limited edition clothing. There is also an "Artists Alley" featuring mainly comic book artists selling artwork, signing books, and doing sketches; and mainstream celebrities signing autographed pictures. I have included some pictures taken of my favorite artists. In addition, WonderCon features an event called "Trailer Park," where trailers for upcoming films are shown. One of my favorite and seemingly funnest events is the The WonderCon masquerade competition which usually takes place on Saturday after the convention closes. Awards are given to those with the most creative performances, though anyone can participate.
Blood, peeling flesh, rotting corpses, were only some of the gruesome cosplay fans minced in appreciation of The Walking Dead At WonderCon 2018
My little brother (who's feature is available in my blog) is a ridiculously huge Walking Dead fan. After being thoroughly creeped out by the numerous zombies walking around (being a boy doesn't mean you like scary stuff haha) He was able to pick up some of the best fan swag.
As a comic fan it was awesome to see MARVELS "Agents of Shield" panel on Saturday afternoon including the series stars the stunning Ming-Na Wen, the funny Chloe Bennet, sexy Scottish Iain De Caestecker, the beautiful Elizabeth Henstridge, tall dark handsome Henry Simmons, spunky Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward (who also played Charles Manson in 'Manson's Lost Girls-2016'). You can always count on a few celebrity
Any excuse I have to be a kid I revel in. As a parent, business owner, stylist, and overall stressed out adult, it is an amazing feeling letting go of worry and responsibility and live on Neverland for a day.
